Simple Salt & Pepper Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Steamed Vegetables
Ingredients
For the Steak:
4 steaks from Lomah Farms (ribeye, sirloin, or your preferred cut)
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
For the Mashed Potatoes:
4 large potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet)
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk or heavy cream
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Steamed Vegetables:
2 cups mixed vegetables (e.g., broccoli, carrots, cauliflower)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon butter (optional)
Directions
Prepare the Steak:
Season the steaks generously with salt and pepper on both sides.
Heat the olive oil or butter in a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat.
Once the oil is hot, add the steaks to the skillet.
Cook the steaks for about 4-6 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
Remove the steaks from the skillet and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
Make the Mashed Potatoes:
Peel and cut the potatoes into chunks.
Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with water. Add a pinch of salt.
Bring the water to a boil and cook the potatoes for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are tender and easily pierced with a fork.
Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
Add the butter and milk (or heavy cream) to the potatoes.
Mash the potatoes until they are smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Steam the Vegetables:
In a large pot with a steamer basket, bring a few inches of water to a boil.
Add the mixed vegetables to the steamer basket.
Cover and steam the vegetables for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are tender yet still crisp.
Season the steamed vegetables with salt, pepper, and a little butter if desired.
Combine and Serve:
Plate the steak alongside a generous serving of mashed potatoes.
Add a portion of steamed vegetables to the plate.
Serve immediately and enjoy your meal!
Tips: Let the steaks come to room temperature before cooking for more even cooking. Adjust the amount of milk or cream in the mashed potatoes to reach your desired consistency. You can use any combination of vegetables you like for the steamed side. Enjoy your delicious, farm-fresh steak dinner!
